No Pull Leash Walking Solutions The type of harness or collar you choose and the success you have with it will depend greatly on your dog’s temperament. If a front attachment harness does not do the job, consider either a Sporn Harness or a head collar. Easy Walk Harness - This harness is designed to have a leash attached to the ring on the chest. Front attachment harnesses help to control the dogs shoulders to ease pulling on leash. Sold in most pet stores. Sensation Harness & Sensible Harness - These are front attachment harnesses. What I like about them vs. the Easy Walk Harness is that they do not have an additional loop on the chest, which makes for a better fit and less cumbersome. Not sold locally, online only. Freedom No Pull Harness - This harness is a mix of a front and back attachement harness and works off the concepts of controlling the dogs shoulders from the front as well as tightening around the dogs body from the back attachment. It does not hurt the dog, but it creates a mildly uncomfortable sensation. This harness is sold at Chuck & Dons and Petsmart. Gentle Leader Head Collar - Head collars create a lot more control and are great for dogs that are strong pullers. No collar correction needed, the head collar does it all for you. This is a great training aid, but not a training replacement, so continue working on leash walking with treats rewarding your dog for walking nicely by your side. Dap Collar & Dap Diffuser - Dap stands for dog appeasing pheromones. It is designed to simulate the pheromones a mother dog secretes which calms the dog. Again, mixed results, some very good, others no change. Found at Petco. Other Remote Spray Collar - A good alternative to using a shock collar. Good for boundary training, barking and more. Bicycle Attachment - A great safe way to run your dog alongside your bike. Retractable Dog Gate - Excellent for creating barriers between rooms when housetraining or boundary training. Bitter Apple Spray - Great for stopping chewing on leashes, rugs, and furniture. Some dogs need a stronger deterrent such as tobasco sauce or lemon juice. Indoor Drag Line - Great tool that gives you added control while training your dog. Let your dog drag it around the house and pick up as needed to control behavior.
